Saturday Afternoons ( 8 Classes)
February 1st - April 12th, 2025
(No classes on February 15th, March 8th , March 15th)
3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
(Maximum of 12 students)
Teacher: Marshall Geddes
Course Description:
This class introduces artists to traditional watercolour techniques and other approaches, such as mixing gouache and pen-and-ink with watercolour. The class is called "Drawing and Painting" because there will be two main approaches covered. One involves making a detailed drawing of the subject and then "colouring it" with watercolours. The other is closer to an "alla prima" approach to painting watercolours, where you paint on the fly with limited drawing to assist you.
Materials will be provided for the first class only. From the second class onward, students will be expected to bring their own materials.
Classes will be held indoors in a classroom setting. We will work from photos and still-life subjects. En plein air materials and procedures will be discussed.
A list of recommended materials will be sent to students after the first week of the course.
Accessibility note: This class will take place on the second level of the building. We unfortunately do not have an elevator or stair lift at this time. Students enrolled in the class will need to be able to navigate the stairs to access the classroom. We are happy to assist in any way we can to make this more manageable for students with mobility constraints.
